Fourth International Degrowth Conference: report by Seán Conlan

Seán Conlan was very impressed by the spirit of enquiry and creativity at the recent degrowth conference in Leipzig. You can read his impressions here. Other reports on the conference from Feasta members will be following shortly.

Degrowth conference in Leipzig

Feasta members Willi Kiefel, Seán Conlan and Brian Davey will be attending next week's degrowth conference, which will focus on concrete steps towards a society beyond the imperative of growth. Willi will be presenting a paper that he prepared with Seán on Feasta co-founder Richard Douthwaite's contribution towards a material degrowth society in Ireland.

Peak Oil Revisited…

Brian Davey presents evidence that the peaking of conventional 'legacy' oil production back in 2005, and its subsequent decline, is inexorably leading to a transfer of resources from discretionary consumption to investment in energy infrastructure throughout the industrialised world. He believes that there is no way out of the Catch 22 within the growth economy model and that this is why de-growth is needed.

Degrowth in Slovenia

This talk given by Brian Davey last month in Slovenia describes many of the challenges faced by small peripheral states in the current world economy and provides an overview of solutions put forward by Feasta and its partners.
