Feasta/WEAll Ireland Hub, in partnership with Coalation2030, hosted an online discussion on this important topic at 7 pm Irish time, Tuesday, November 19th 2024.
Ireland faces a critical challenge as short-term political cycles overshadow the long-term well-being of our society, environment, and economy. From housing and healthcare crises to insufficient climate and biodiversity protections, the impacts of short-term thinking are clear and alarming.
The Well-being of Future Generations Bill (2023) could be transformative, ensuring our youth, future generations, and ecosystems receive the respect and legislative support they urgently need. With cross-party support, this Bill has the momentum to make a lasting impact, but it needs continued advocacy, especially as Ireland’s next election approaches.
Our webinar showed the importance of ensuring this Bill is prioritised in the next Programme for Government, exploring the successful impacts of similar legislation worldwide and how it can shape a fairer, more sustainable Ireland. Catherine Carty from the UNESCO Inclusive Policy Lab presented insights from the recent Coalition 2030 paper, A Call to Action for Future Generations, after which we opened the floor for Q&A and group discussion.
