Before the Wells Run Dry - Ireland's Transition to Renewable Energy

On October the 23rd 2003 Dr. Hermann Scheer will launch FEASTA's new publication 'Before The Wells Run Dry - Ireland's Transition to Renewable Energy'. The book, which is edited by economist Richard Douthwaite, is the proceedings of the successful conference held in Thurles late last year and features the transcripts of the presentations made by the speakers.

Dr. Hermann Scheer is a member of the German Bundestag (Parliament) and President of EUROSOLAR. In a career devoted to the replacement of nuclear and fossil fuels with environmentally sound energy sources, Dr. Scheer has received numerous awards, including the World Solar Prize, the Alternative Nobel Prize and TIME Magazine's 'Heroes of the Green Century' for his national and international commitment for Renewable Energy.

Hermann Scheer will give the lecture organised by FEASTA in partnership with the DIT Bolton Street, Faculty of Built Environment, MSc in Sustainable Development, at 7.30 pm at Room 259, in Bolton Street DIT. This is a free lecture and all are welcome.

'Members of the German Parliament don't usually create much of a stir outside Europe. But Hermann Scheer electrified a Washington audience last month with his gale-force enthusiasm...In the past decade, this earnest economist has, more than any single political leader, transformed Europe's energy landscape...Scheer who has preached his gospel in 100 countries, does not believe the world can afford to wait for the market alone to make wind and solar power competitive with fossil fuels. Renewable energy, he says, "is necessary for the assurance of life on earth. There is no time to waste."'.TIME MAGAZINE, August 2002
