| | CAST YOUR VOTE FOR AOIFE OR DAMIEN - VOTE HERE! Episode 1: WaterAoife and Damien begin their journey into the ins and outs of water in a fierce Donegal storm. They've both swotted up and know that global shortages are looming, even though it's hard to believe in the pouring rain. Then they're off magically flying over dusty Colorado, checking out irrigation from the massive underlying aquifer. Episode 2: AirDamien feels right at home as they sit in a SUV in a Californian traffic jam. Aoife hates the 8-miles-to-a-gallon motor and trots out fact after fact about global warming - there's more CO2 in the atmosphere now than there has been for 20 million years - flooding, homelessness, hurricanes, droughts are all increasing. Damien is adamant oil makes the world go around but Aoife persists: politicians are ostriches! They've buried their head in the sand on this one - the economy is still gas-guzzling - the earth's heating up and atmospheric pollution is killing people - 100,000 in Europe alone. Episode 3: FoodAoife and Damien go head to head on food - in the cab of Damien's truck! Heading down to Greece with a load of Irish veg they argue over how to solve global hunger - is more food the solution, or is changing food distribution the answer? Obesity is close to Damien's heart (but not as close as he'd like it, if you get his drift!) but this doesn't stop Aoife trotting out statistics about world junk food consumption. She even tries to get the over-weight Dub to taste some wholesome morsels when they land in Cuba to check out the organic farming. The co-presenters, Marge and Finian, get stroppy over genetically engineered food - Finian is adamant it's bad news. Aoife's also indignant about Indian basmati rice being patented by US companies - she says they're biopirates. Next thing the pair are highjacked by a greater power which plunges them into an unpredictable future . . . what will they eat? Episode 4: EnergyThe show's intrepid contestants, Aoife and Damien, head off in a hot air balloon to find out where our energy comes from. Starting at the site of the world's first oil drill in Iraq, they float over the Persian Gulf and on down to the Niger delta, discovering the real cost of oil, in between puffs of hot air. | | |||||||
