THE LITTLE EARTH BOOK
Our little Earth is now desperately vulnerable. And so are we. In 1999 the chief meteorologists of Britain and the US issued a joint letter to national newspapers in both countries, including: "Ignoring climate change will surely be the most costly of all possible choices, for us and our children". These changes are happening NOW. Our environment is no longer a matter for experts and environmentalists. It is an urgent matter for us all. The Little Earth Book is a collection of mini-essays on today's most important environmental concerns, from global warming and poisoned food to economic growth, Third World debt, genes and 'superbugs'. Undogmatic but sure-footed, the style is light, explaining complex issues with easy language, illustrations and cartoons. Each chapter is short and to the point, and aims to inspire emotionally or intellectually - or both. It is an easy browse. The Little Earth Book provides hope, with new ideas and examples of people swimming against the current and bold ideas that work in practice. This is a brilliant little book. It is also very important. One has been sent to every MP. You can now learn about the issues and join the most urgent debate of this century. The publisher, Alastair Sawday, is a Trustee of the Soil Association, and the author, James Bruges, is an architect. Both have been active environmentalists for over 25 years. "Provocative and highly readable" Tim Waterstone "Be refreshed! The Little Earth Book is different. And instructive. And even fun!" Jonathan Porritt. "Surely destined to become an the smallest environmental classic ever published" Hatural History Book Service
